Gyudon | Japanese Beef Rice Bowl

This recipe makes 4 servings

Gyudon Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 500 grams of thinly sliced beef

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup of hot water

  • 1 beef bouillon cube

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp mirin

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Additional toppings:

  • White rice

  • Fried / poached / soft boiled Egg

  • Green onions

  • Pickled ginger

  • Pickled cucumber

  • Sesame seeds

Gyudon Recipe:

  1. Heat up the oil over medium heat.

  2. Add the thinly sliced onion and sauté until they are soft, translucent, and fragrant.

  3. Add the thinly sliced beef and sugar. Cook until the beef is brown and mostly cooked through.

  4. Meanwhile, in a bowl, add the hot water, crushed up beef bouillon cube, soy sauce, mirin, and seasonings.

  5. Once the beef is cooked, add the sauce mixture and stir to coat all the beef. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
